Tick Season!

June 12th, 2008 · No Comments · General

Now is the time to be more cautious about ticks. During the summer months we tend to run around outdoors in shorts and sandals. Ticks will jump on you should you go past where they are hiding in wait for that unsuspecting person to walk by.

If you are planning to spend time in grassy areas where the grass is longer than 2 inches high, please make sure to wear long pants and sneakers or shoes. Use repellent. Check your family and pets every day especially behind knees, armpits and the scalp. There are 36 hours to remove an infected tick before it will transmit Lyme disease. If you find a tick remove it with tweezers being very careful not to squeeze the tick. If you aren’t sure you can remove it safely, go to the doctor for removal. You will need to give the tick to your doctor so it can be tested for Lyme disease. After removal of the tick make sure to use an antibiotic ointment on the area.
