Things not to do with stains

December 31st, 2007 · No Comments · Cleaning Tips

Don’t put salt on a red wine stain as the color will set permanently. Same for coffee, tea and cola stains.

Don’t rub soap on fresh stains, especially red wine, coffee, or tea as this will also set stains.

Don’t use very hot water on fresh stains since it will also set the stain.

Don’t drench the area with water or stain remover. You should use small amounts repeatedly.

Don’t use a stain removed without testing a spot in a hidden area so you won’t ruin the material or carpet.

Don’t leave stain remover on silk or wool if it contains enzymes. It will destroy your garment.

Don’t use any type of bleach or bleach product on silk or wool. You will have discoloration and it might “eat” through the material.

Don’t tumble dry stained clothing or use the iron on it. This will set the stain.

Don’t try to remove stains from antique materials. Leave that to the dry cleaner!
