He wanted to apologize for not looking into my account deeper when he last called me. He said the bank was wrong on placing the two overdraft fees on my account. He told me he understood why I fought so hard to get the money replaced in my account. He then informed me the bank is looking into the reasoning why the credit card company would place a “freeze” on anyone’s account for a debit purchase. He wanted me to know this will not be placed on a shelf, but will be something that will be discussed among the key people between the bank and the credit card company they deal with.

I hope this does become an issue and gets resolved. There are too many consumers who have been taken advantage of when they used their debit card. If the money is there in their bank account, there shouldn’t be any freeze on the account at all. All in all, I am somewhat pleased this whole concern has been resolved. I hope to see some future results for other people, too.

Opinion poll= debit card ripoffs

My Opinion

bank

debit

FDC

freeze

overdraft
<guid

Using a debit card should be an easy process, but the banks and the credit card companies are making it much too strenuous.

I would like my readers to give me their opinions on this issue. If you haven’t read the previous postings, please do this before giving me your opinion. I still feel banks and credit card companies “freezing” a certain amount on the checking account until the debit is paid has to be illegal. They are holding your account ransom until the debit goes through, BUT they don’t take the freeze off for days, causing those overdraft fees the bank so greedily grabs. Yes, most banks will reverse the fee if you ask, but some people don’t know this and won’t question it. Please email me. I will respond and I will do whatever is in my power to do regarding this concern. As I get responses I will update this information.

Ripped off at the pump!

My Opinion

debit

freeze

gas

overdraft

Ripped
<guid

The owner of one gas station informed me the banks impose the freeze on the checking account not the gas station owners. The bank managers tell me the opposite. One is lying, but which one? I intend to do some more calling and try to learn the real truth of this issue.

I believe imposing a fee on unsuspecting consumers is not right. In fact it should be downright illegal. I will continue to inform my readers of information received regarding using a debit card at a gas station pump. Check your local stations and see if there are any postings either on the pumps or inside the gas station to inform customers a freeze will be put on their checking account if they use a debit card at the pump. I found 1 station out of 3 who had such a sticker on their pumps.

gas + debit card= disaster!

My Opinion

fee

gas

overdraft

station
<guid

I used a debit card to purchase $15 worth of gas at a Shell station. What I didn’t know was they would “freeze” $90 on my checking account! I didn’t have that much in my account, so now I have a $35 overdraft fee to pay. I am not a happy camper at all! I am trying to get my bank to delete that fee as I feel this is an unfair practice pulled by the gas station. I have since learned this happens a lot. If you use a credit card they will “freeze” $1. Yes, that’s right, ONE DOLLAR. So why the huge freeze for a debit card that would pay out quickly? I have no clue.

I did learn by going onto the Internet that I am not the only person this has happened to. If you want to read more just Goggle debit card + gas and you will find the information. I intend to go back to that Shell station and complain. I don’t know if it will do me any good, but I would certainly feel better getting it off my chest. If enough people complain maybe the gas stations will stop this practice. I feel it is not only unfair but should be illegal. Pass this on to all your family and friends. Let them know this could happen to them. I was lucky enough not to have more than $35 deducted. Some people ended up bouncing a lot of checks and incurred high overdraft fees. Be careful since there are too many companies out there trying to rip off the people who can’t afford to have this happen. With gas prices as high as they are right now, it seems to just be another way to aggravate the situation.
