I knew it wasn’t pink eye, but the itching was getting on my nerves and actually affecting my sight a bit. Alex drove me to the eye doctor Friday afternoon for a 2:30 appointment. We finally left there about 3:45 after having a complete exam including eye drops to make my corneas larger so he could check my eyes better. The diagnosis was that I had some irritation on the edges of my eyelids. Being blond and having few eyelashes there was plenty of room for the bacteria to develop and begin bothering me. The doctor gave me a prescription for a brand name eye drop and told me I was to begin using this medication that same evening.

We stopped at two drug stores on the way home and neither had the medication. We called seven other drug stores before one told me about this specific drugstore not far from where we live that might have the medication. When I called them they had 1 bottle. I told them to hold it for me and we went right over there. This was a Good Neighbor Pharmacy. They certainly lived up to their name!

The druggist took my information and prescription and told me it would take about 15 minutes. While we waited we walked around this quaint drug store, marveling at the things they were selling. It was like stepping back in time. We saw pick up sticks, marbles, balsa wood planes and kites. Things you don’t normally see when going into a commercial drug store. This one was unique. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The insurance company gave the druggist a hard time about payment as the prescription was not written by a regular doctor. But a few extra minutes on his part and the insurance company gave the go ahead. This cost me a lot more than normal prescriptions because it’s a brand name medication, but I needed it.

I do admit I felt frustrated needing to call so many drugstores to find this medication, but the stuff is working and the itching has just about stopped. The irritation I had seems to be going away, so all in all it was worthwhile spending time to find this specific eye drop. Sometimes you have to keep checking and not give up. A little bit of stubbornness sure helped me Friday night. If you need Azasite I hope you don’t have to waste time searching for a pharmacy that has a bottle. This medication is scarce right now. We learned that on the Internet. It’s a shame to have to go the length we did just to find a bottle. I can imagine what a parent would do if the patient was their child. It was just too annoying to have to continue calling, but I wasn’t about to waste gas and more time to find what I needed.

Prescription medicine

My Opinion

capsules

Diabetes

Health care

medication

medicines

pills

stomach
<guid

I take 5 pills for diabetes, 1 for high blood pressure, 1 for my nerves, another for cholesterol,2 water pill for my swelling feet, and now 2 more for my stomach. Now these are not all taken at once, but it takes me time to get all the pills out daily and make sure they are all taken. In one instance the cholesterol pill was very expensive..$136 without insurance, $40 with my insurance. Holy Hanna! I just about died at the pharmacy! I can’t keep taking these medications if they are going to cost me an arm and a leg. I am beginning to think of myself as a guinea pig with some of the medication.

I never asked for Diabetes, nor the stomach problems i am having right now. I do eat a fairly healthy diet and try not to over indulge. Seconds are not begging me to devour them. I know I could be doing worse, but the amount of pills I swallow in one day makes me cringe. Yet, what choice do I have? It’s either to life or to die. I am choosing life.

I know there are people out there who take more pills than I do. To you I would welcome any comments. To me it seems the drug companies are making money hand over fist and we, the ill, need to buy their merchandise to keep our bodies going. So, I will take the white, the pink, the blue, and the capsules as needed. Then there’s losing weight. Always hard to accomplish, but how to exercise with a stomach that keeps trying to knock me down. I don’t know if better health care would work to keep the prices down on the medications we need to keep going. Health care businesses must be booming right now even though we are in a recession. Pills are recession proof!

Januvia Alert!!!!

Diabetes

health alert

medication

pancreas
<guid

Januvia has been diagnosed for Type II diabetics. Now it has been found to increase pancreatic cancer. The study was used on rats as subjects. This pill caused abnormalities in the pancreas of the rats.Lead investigator Dr Peter Butler, director of the Hillbloom Center was quoted as saying, “A concern here is that the unwanted effects of this drug on the pancreas would likely not be detected in humans unless the pancreas was removed and examined.”

This makes me wonder how long Januvia was under scrutiny. Does the public not have a right to know these things? I got this information from a diabetes forum that I belong to. Surprisingly, I did not hear about this on the news on TV. I would have thought this would be something that would be a huge news story. Dare we risk our health with a new drug each time one comes out? I don’t use this medication because I can’t afford it, even with insurance. It’s just too expensive. I do hope people who are using Januvia will take heed and question their doctor about this medication. Do not stop taking it until your doctor approves you to do so.
