He said he was disappointed weapons of mass destruction were never found in Iraq. He acknowledged he made mistakes in claiming the U.S. and allies prevailed in Iraq just 2 months after the was started. He also said he was hugely disappointed with the few military guards who took the pictures and abused prisoners at the Abu Graib camp. He felt the response to Hurricane Katrina was fast enough even though it could have been a bit faster. He also joked with the reporters.

He felt he had taken extraordinary measures to deal with the frozen credit markets. He feels tax cuts are the “right course of action” to help the economy. He started his presidency in a recession and is leaving during another recession. However, during his 8 years as President there were 52 straight months of job growth.

He told the reporters he felt the biggest threat to Obama would be an attack on the U.S. He said “there’s still an enemy out there that would like to inflict damage on America–on Americans.”

Hurricane Gustav

My Opinion

Gustav

Hurricane

Katrina
<guid

Newly rebuilt but not completely finished, will they be enough to withstand the gale force winds and pounding surge of water Gustav will dump into the New Orleans area? I watched the news this morning as millions of people have evacuated the city. However, there are still some who are remaining behind, risking their lives. Why? If they know the storm will pound New Orleans, why stay? One young couple was shown with all the supplies they have. A refrigerator full of food might not be enough if the electric or their generator go out. Yes, they had a nice supply of gas for the generator, but if this storm is as bad as Katrina, they may go for quite a long time without electricity if the generator shuts off and won’t restart. I wonder if they are prepared to clean up again.

I saw pictures of people fleeing the city, some in tears. They survived Katrina, only to have Gustav battering their area three years later. Is it really worthwhile to rebuild again? Will the American people once again open their hearts and their doors to care and shelter refugees? Will people be able to dig deep into their pockets and help again with the economy as bad as it is? I wonder. I know I am not in the position I was three years ago. I am struggling like millions of others. While I live in the North East, does that exclude me from caring? No, it doesn’t. However, the digging deep into my pocket to help financially is not going to happen this time around. It makes me sad, but all I can do right now is pray for the city and people of New Orleans and hope Gustav won’t be as horrible as Katrina was.
