Then why was there some huge “pork” in the stimulus package just passed through the House? Over 30 wasteful spending provisions were in that package. Such as $246 million for tax breaks for Hollywood producers to purchase motion pictures, $650 million for DTV converter box coupons, $248 million of furniture for the new Department of Homeland Security headquarters, $600 million for hybrid vehicles for government employees, and $1 billion for the 2010 Census. Senator John McCain said two questions should be asked about this pork: Does it take effect within the year? Does it create jobs? If it won’t help with either, then it doesn’t need to stay in this stimulus package.
