They are tired of the oppressive things Kadafi has done in the years he has been in power. Perhaps the overthrow of the government in Egypt has spurred the people of Libya to fight for freedom. It seems so far they are winning.

What bothers me is a statement made by President Obama pledging to “help however we can”. Does this mean getting involved in yet another war? Aren’t we in wars too long now? This bothers me because it seems we have been sending our young men and women into dangerous areas to fight alongside the people of the regions who are at war. While I am not opposed to the Libyans fighting for their freedom, I am opposed to Obama sticking the U.S. “neck” out again. I hope he knows what he’s doing, but I doubt he thought long and hard about that statement he made.

The Freedom Tower in New York

My Opinion

freedom
<guid

It would seem Americans would want this new tower to be built to show the world we won’t back down and we are a nation that is proud. The following is an excerpt from an interview with Glen Beck which was printed in Time Magazine, September 28, 2009. David Von Drehle was the interviewer.

“Let me tell you something. I believe that if it were up to you or me, just regular schmoes in America, the Freedom Tower would have been done years ago. And it wouldn’t have been the Freedom Towers; it would have been the Freedom Towers-because we would’ve built both of these towers back the way they were before! Except we would’ve built them stronger! We would’ve built them in a way that they would’ve resisted attack. And you know what? My guess is they would’ve been 25 stories taller, with a big fat COME AND TRY THAT AGAIN sign on top. We would’ve built it with our bare hands if we had to, because that’s what Americans do. When we fail, when we face a crisis, we pull ourselves up and make things better. I believe the only reason we haven’t built it isn’t because of Americans. It’s because we’re being held back. And who is holding us back? Politicians. Special interest groups. Political correctness. You name it-everybody but you.”

Very interesting concept. Why hasn’t the tower been built? What is going on that is taking so long to resurrect a building on that site? Who exactly is dragging his or her feet with this project? Is New York City to blame? The governor of New York? The major of New York? Or is this coming from Washington itself? What Beck said in that article made sense to me, but this does not. Why are we as a nation dragging our feet in creating the Freedom Tower?

PROTESTS IN IRAN

My Opinion

freedom

Iran

police

protesters

voting
<guid

The re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinjad has stirred the protesters to fill the streets, yelling and complaining about the election.

The recent photos in newspapers and video clips on television show the police swinging their nightsticks at anyone who got in front of them, including women. I watched as one seemed to aim at the mid sections of protesters who got in his way. Some police took to a rooftop, firing on the protesters below, killing 1 man and injuring many others.

The protesters were arguing the election was rigged. The big mahoff got his way and the people feel he did something to the votes to make it go his way. Mir Hossein Mousavi was with the protesters. He felt he was leading the election. Most Iranians wanted him to win and voted for him. He is requesting the votes be recounted.

Be thankful you are in America where we have a much better life than the Iranians. Too many people take for granted what freedoms we have. We have choices we can make on our own, no one telling us what to do, what type of job to have, or what kind of education we can pursue. Americans tend to forget these things. They are our rights as American citizens, yet some choose to abuse these rights. While we can feel for the people of Iran and what they are going through at this time, we also have to understand that as Americans we need to remember our freedoms. God bless the U.S.A!

The right to Vote

My Opinion

freedom

priviledge

right

vote
<guid

This is a priviledge, but there are some people who can vote who won’t be at the polls on Election Day. Why? Because they either don’t care or want to be there. Some will say their vote won’t count. Others will use the excuse nothing ever changes and it doesn’t matter who gets elected. There are also a few who will say they don’t have the time to vote. These are just lame excuses. The right to vote is precious and we should all make sure to take those few minutes to vote.

Some countries are ruled by dictators. The people in those countries don’t have the right to vote. They can’t decide for themselves. They have to listen to the person in charge who might lead them in the wrong direction. We are lucky to be able to vote for the people who will represent us in the government.

All the wars fought since the beginning of our country until now have been fought for our freedom. Soldiers have given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. One of those freedoms is the ability to vote. Please make sure you vote on Election Day. It would be an honor to those who sacrificed their lives for us over the past decades.
