Red wine stains need to be treated immediately. Blot the area with a clean cloth before you sponge the area with cool water. Try to soak up as much as you can with the cloth. You can also use white wine to dab the area. That neutralizes the red pigments. If the spill is on a carpet cover the area with salt and let the salt absorb the wine overnight. Just make sure to put a bowl over the soiled area and alert your guests not to step on the bowl. This way the spill won’t be all over the rug from footprints. The next day you can clean up the salt using your vacuum cleaner. Make a mixture of dishwashing liquid and white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Use this to blot until the stain is gone. Rinse the area and blot dry. There are also some wine cleaners on the market.
If you get some candle wax on clothing or a tablecloth, let it dry. Then you can gently scrape off as much as possible. You can also place paper towels (use more than 1) over the area and press with a warm iron. Replace the towels as needed. If the wax is on a carpet, fluff the fibers after you are done.
Chocolate stains can be removed from clothing using a laundry pre-spotter and working this into the stain with your fingers. Wash as usual with hot water and fabric-safe bleach. If the chocolate is on your sofa or the rug, you will need dry-cleaning solvent. Just sponge afterwards with cold water and blot dry.
