Sexting- the new thing to do

December 13th, 2008 · 2 Comments · My Opinion

The latest thing to do is to take a picture on your phone and send it to a friend. There’s a hitch- you have to be naked or nearly naked. The pictures can then be sent to other people, someone you don’t even know. How would you feel having someĀ  stranger looking at your body without your knowledge? Yet, thousands of young people do this every day. It’s the latest hip thing to do. Perhaps it’s my generation, but I would think twice (maybe even more than twice) about this kind of thing. What if those pictures get loaded online and then come back to haunt you when you are older? Will those pictures keep you from landing the job of your dreams? Could be. You just never know who might be looking at those pictures. Think again, teens and young adults. It’s not worth following every trend that comes along. Don’t degrade yourself. Your body should be just that….YOUR’S!!!

I really think its not that big of an issue. I mean yeah, it could possibly harm you in the long run, but its just kids having fun. We should be happy that they’re not actually having sex. This is just my opinion, but I think everyone should just let us young adults have fun. I have taken part in this many times, I’ve never sent pictures but I have sent messages like this. It was just something fun to do in the moment. It’s also peoples private life and I don’t think other people need to get involved unless they’re going around telling everyone and showing people the messages. But if you are going to send these messages to any person I think you need to trust them enough that they won’t go around showing everyone.

That’s the problem- others who shouldn’t have gotten the message/photo in the first place passing them on to others and it just can snowball from there. It could prevent people from getting good jobs in the future if the intended employer has seen such photos. Same thing goes for Facebook. Watch what you do and say and it won’t be so bad. It turns out to be a reputation thing. You don’t want to known as a pimp or slut.
