I had some itching at my eyes so I went to the eye doctor to find out what was going on. I knew it wasn’t pink eye, but the itching was getting on my nerves and actually affecting my sight a bit. Alex drove me to the eye doctor Friday afternoon for a 2:30 appointment. We finally left there about 3:45 after having a complete exam including eye drops to make my corneas larger so he could check my eyes better. The diagnosis was that I had some irritation on the edges of my eyelids. Being blond and having few eyelashes there was plenty of room for the bacteria to develop and begin bothering me. The doctor gave me a prescription for a brand name eye drop and told me I was to begin using this medication that same evening.
We stopped at two drug stores on the way home and neither had the medication. We called seven other drug stores before one told me about this specific drugstore not far from where we live that might have the medication. When I called them they had 1 bottle. I told them to hold it for me and we went right over there. This was a Good Neighbor Pharmacy. They certainly lived up to their name!
The druggist took my information and prescription and told me it would take about 15 minutes. While we waited we walked around this quaint drug store, marveling at the things they were selling. It was like stepping back in time. We saw pick up sticks, marbles, balsa wood planes and kites. Things you don’t normally see when going into a commercial drug store. This one was unique. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The insurance company gave the druggist a hard time about payment as the prescription was not written by a regular doctor. But a few extra minutes on his part and the insurance company gave the go ahead. This cost me a lot more than normal prescriptions because it’s a brand name medication, but I needed it.
I do admit I felt frustrated needing to call so many drugstores to find this medication, but the stuff is working and the itching has just about stopped. The irritation I had seems to be going away, so all in all it was worthwhile spending time to find this specific eye drop. Sometimes you have to keep checking and not give up. A little bit of stubbornness sure helped me Friday night. If you need Azasite I hope you don’t have to waste time searching for a pharmacy that has a bottle. This medication is scarce right now. We learned that on the Internet. It’s a shame to have to go the length we did just to find a bottle. I can imagine what a parent would do if the patient was their child. It was just too annoying to have to continue calling, but I wasn’t about to waste gas and more time to find what I needed.
