Deer can damage your plants. They will eat just about any plants. There are products on the market that should help keep them from doing a lot of damage. Fences won’t necessarily keep them out, unless the fences are electric. Don’t put food out for the deer.
Rabbits will eat flowers, fruit, leaves, bark and stems of some plants. If you have a rabbit problem put tree guards around the trunks of trees and shrubs. Fence garden with chicken wire at least 4 feet high. Mothballs or blood meal should keep them away from areas you don’t want them. Just remember wild rabbits carry disease, so don’t handle them.
Raccoons will eat all sorts of vegetables and take food from garbage cans and bird feeders. They will go inside homes, garages, and sheds. They are night feeders. If you see one during the day it might be rabid. Call the local police and report the sighting. Store birdseed and pet foods inside. Mothballs and bloodmeal will keep them away.
Just remember mothballs can harm children and pets so make sure you place them where they can’t be reached by children or pets. Strongly scented deodorant soap can also keep animals away. Slice or grate bars and sprinkle them throughout the garden. Cayenne pepper sprayed or sprinkled on plants also will keep animals from eating them, however after a heavy rain you will need to retreat the plants.
