In our local Sunday newspaper there is an article about this little boy. He’d been sleeping in his parents bed when an intruder came into the home and shot him twice in the back. Surgeons had to repair a hole in his colon and his injured kidney. He could have bled to death had not the EMTS and the surgeons been able to work on his little 33 pound body as quickly as they did. Surgeons found his kidney shattered, a hole in his small intestine, and a hole in his diaphragm (the muscle between the abdomen and chest. Once the damaged kidney was removed the spleen was damaged. Doctors worked quickly to save the child. They weren’t sure he would survive or that due to spinal cord injury he might be paralyzed.
Amin’s parents had also been shot during the invasion. The head surgeon would later learn his mother had died of her injuries. She focused on saving the child’s life. It would take 3 more surgeries over the next week to completely treat all his wounds and close up his abdomen. He was admitted to Shriner’s Hospital for Children and will be undergoing rehabilitation and physical therapy. He has no feeling in his legs or toes. But he does have someone who cares. Someone not in the family he has. Someone who is his hero. That someone is Dr. Shaheen Timmapuri, a pediatric surgeon at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
The bottom line here is there are too many children of all ages being shot for one reason or another. Following on the heals of the discovery of Kaylee Anthony’s bones, we all need to take a deep breath and hope there are no more little children being hurt or killed. Far too many get caught in the hail of bullets on the streets, in their homes, and cars over drugs. Far too many are injured by parents or caregivers who really don’t seem to care about them. Children are precious. Please remember that.

I wanted to cry when the DNA proved the bones found near her grandparents’ home proved to be little Kaylee’s. I guess most people thought she was already dead months ago, but there is always the hope that death hadn’t occurred. Now we wait to see if a determination will come as to how she died. I wonder if her mother will ever tell the truth about her daughter’s death. Does she ever have nightmares about when the little one died? Did she kill her own child?
A child’s life is precious. So many couples are hoping and praying to have children. Yet this mother did not seem to care that her child was “missing” back in June. Did she already know her child was dead? Why won’t she come clean? Will she admit to killing her baby now that the bones were found and identified?
I would not be able to sit in the jury on such a case. My heart would break for the child who’s life was gone. I would convict without hearing the whole story of what happened. Perhaps I am harsh to judge someone so quickly, but in this case, I fear we will never ever know the whole truth. Pray for Kaylee’s soul. She’s in a better place now, where God loves her like her mother never did.

My wallet yelled at me today as I shopped for just one more present. I had one person to buy for and I found two nice things for this young man. I shopped at a store where the prices were lowered, a type of closeout store. As I went through the racks of clothing, my wallet was jumping up and down in my purse, reminding me that I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on anyone. So I limited my items to two and checked the prices. Ah, a nice warm winter jacket, originally $60 for $14.99. My wallet sighed deeply, happy with the deep discount. Then a nice fleece sweatshirt type of top, $25 marked down to $6. Oh, that wallet was singing my praises now! And when I paid the cashier the wallet hummed, happy to see that I did not break the Christmas budget this year. We left the store smiling, my wallet and me. Gosh, I love that store! Bargains on brand name items, lower prices, and the best way to have a wonderful expensive looking gift without going broke! Santa has nothing on me!
