There are some myths about osteoporosis. First and foremost, this is not just a disease for old people. Young people can also have osteoporosis. It is preventable and it’s never too last to take any preventative measures. You can’t tell if you have osteoporosis. You could have a tiny fracture and might never know it. Talk to your doctor about bone health. There are treatments for osteoporosis.

You may be at risk if you have a history of low impact fractures, even among family members. If you are thin, use steroid therapy for over 3 months, have a low lifetime calcium or Vitamin D intake, don’t do much physical activity, and frequent alcohol consumption. A bone density test would determine your risk for osteoporosis. Ask you doctor at your next visit.
