Everyone is talking of how much BP will have to pay for the clean up. But there are some things that aren’t being mentioned as much and should be talked about: marine life and fishermen.

The marine life is being destroyed in the Gulf. Dolphins have washed ashore covered in oil .They were dead. Birds have been found dead and alive covered in oil. Dawn dish detergent gets them clean again with help from human volunteers who have gone to the Gulf for this specific purpose. This oil spill will also destroy shrimp, oysters, fish, and more marine life.

Fishermen in the area haven’t been able to do their jobs, resulting in more unemployment. How long will it be until they are able to fish again? Catch shrimp or get oysters from the sea? That may take years to overcome the oil spill. There is also talk of the oil spill possibly going around the coast of Florida and heading up the East coast. Think of all the marine life that will suffer because of the oil spill. This could run into billions more dollars. Who will pay in the end? We will when we pay more for oil and gas, more for seafood (it will need to come from other areas where there is no oil spill), and taxes for the unemployed.

The finger pointing BP and the other companies involved have been doing is so childish. We need answers and we need a solution now. Finger pointing isn’t doing anything to help the situation. This is a disaster of the worst kind. Too many creatures are suffering because of errors or equipment failure. More needs to be studied before any other oil wells are drilled offshore. Time will tell what happens.
