Bugs- summer variety/ lice

June 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Pest Control

We all come across bugs during the summer, especially when our kids come to us with another “cute” one in their hands. If it’s not a bee or wasp, you’re lucky. But then again, there are bugs out there that are problems during the summer. Some bugs cause problems with stinging, hives, or breathing problems. Parents need to be prepared if their children have allergies.

Then there is a “bug” that really isn’t considered a bug by pest control companies. I am talking about lice. Lice is a health issue and cannot be treated by licensed pest control experts. If you notice your child scratching his or her head a lot, has small red bumps in the head, neck and shoulder areas, or tells you something is moving in his or her head, check it carefully. Lice bite and they can cause a lot of  problems for your child and you. Lice will jump from one child to another. It’s a good thing to check your child daily, especially if your child is in day care, goes to parks or camps.

Lice are not caused by uncleanliness. Lice are easy to spread. It’s best not to let your kids share their combs, brushes, towels, pillows and caps with anyone. Over the counter shampoos and lotions can be found in any local drug store. If you aren’t sure what to buy, ask the pharmacist. There are some shampoos for lice that are pesticide free.  And make sure you wash the bedding in hot water. Wash all combs and brushes daily for an hour in rubbing alcohol.
