It would seem the wrath of God was coming down in one area of the world within the past 8 days. This morning’s news that a 6.1 aftershock just 35 miles from Port Au Prince was shocking. Picturing people running for their lives again in such a short time frame was not what I wanted to do. They have been through enough. It’s time to go forward and start cleaning up and rebuilding, only with better structures that won’t tumble like a house of cards.
Even though Haiti is a poorer country they, like everyone else in the world, deserve a better way of life. We need to teach them to deal with the earthquake, learn from it, and begin to rebuild. The government of Haiti needs to be more disciplined. People need to have that fresh start, time for mourning the dead, and have some hope for the future.
While people are still being pulled from under collapsed buildings, there are still many thousands of dead who were actually moved off the streets by front end loaders, dumped into massive graves, never to have their families give them a proper burial. Relief efforts are moving forward, but not quickly enough at times.
What can we do to help? Financial aid, of course, given to the proper charities, mainly the Red Cross. If you can’t give financial aid, then pray very hard for the Haitian people because they need all the help they can get.
