Before starting any exercise program, please make sure you talk to your doctor first. Make sure you are able to do a certain exercise depending on the shape you are in. If you can’t do an exercise because of bad knees, sore back, or any other health problems, don’t even try that exercise. You can hurt yourself more and that won’t help. Also know your limits when it comes to the time frame you set for yourself and the type of exercise you will be doing. If jumping jacks hurt your feet or knees, don’t do them. If you can’t walk more than 15 minutes at a time then gradually build yourself up over a period of weeks to the point where you can walk for at least 30 minutes. You may not need to exercise every day. This is also something to discuss with your doctor.
You need a program where you can work hard at your own level of fitness. You need to make your body work to get rid of those excess pounds. You need to burn off the calories of what you ate that day. Ask your doctor how many calories you should have each day. You can then determine (with your doctor’s help) how long each day you should exercise.
It’s also important that you know muscle weighs more than fat so you might not lose weight immediately. You will create muscle before losing weight. Don’t worry because you will lose weight if you continue to exercise. Lack of exercise can cause muscles to become weak. You want to exercise to improve your cholesterol levels, strengthen your heart and lungs, increase muscle strength, reduce blood pressure, and reduce the risk for certain illnesses. You can control your diabetes with exercise. You can also improve your energy levels, sleep habits, deal with stress better, and keeps your mental status at previous levels. You will have a new self image once you start losing weight. You just need to keep at it consistently. Don’t be a couch potato! Get out there and exercise! You’ll thank yourself for it.
