With all the changes in the world today and the gas prices getting higher we all need to make some drastic changes in the way we do things. Cutting the water bill might help somewhat. If you haven’t changed your showerhead since 1992 please do so! That little bit of money spent will help since the government requires a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute or lower.
You also don’t need to flush the toilet every time. If you haven’t had a bowel movement you don’t need to flush. The second time you go, then flush. Also the newer toilets have a low flush rate. With the 1992 law the maximum flush should be no more than 1.6 gallons per flush.
Sprinklers also use a lot of water. You can use up to 240 to 300 gallons of water every half hour with a sprinkler system in your yard. That’s enough for 2 weeks worth of showers for one person! Instead, use a timer system with the sprinkler if you must use a sprinkler at all. There are different systems that will help you cut down on the water you use for sprinkling.
Fix the drippy faucets, check for toilet leaks, add aerators in the kitchen and bathroom to cut back on water and please water your lawn or garden carefully. It’s best to water early in the morning so the sun won’t evaporate the water so quickly that the plants can’t absorb it fast enough.
