Can you control diabetes without medication?

February 25th, 2008 · No Comments · Diabetes

The answer to this question is “yes”, but only if you also exercise and watch your diet. I won’t lie to you since it hasn’t been easy for me. I take oral medication to help control my diabetes. I know people who need insulin shots to control their diabetes. It depends on what your doctor thinks will help you. You do need to remember there are certain things that will elevate blood sugar levels, such as stress and illness.

Diabetes is a complicated disease. Diet control can help. Before beginning any diet medications, please talk to your doctor. Most diet supplements and pills claim to boost your metabolism. Like cocaine and amphetamines these drugs will artificially give your nervous system a boost, but they can also make your heart race and possibly cause some severe mental problems. Think before taking these. You would be much better off joining a group to lose weight. There are many groups like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and Tops who can help if you feel you really need to lose a lot of weight. Or get yourself a diet partner, someone who you can discuss what you eat and exercise with you.

I know it’s not easy to diet and find the time to exercise. You just have to make up your mind to get busy and do it. Now that I’ve said that, I need to go do my exercise. Just 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes will help. Find an exercise that works for you and get started. Even Richard Simmons “Sweating to the Oldies” can help you get in better shape and hopefully will help you with your diabetes.
