cleaning uses for salt

December 26th, 2007 · No Comments · Cleaning Tips

Salt can be used for many things around the house besides flavoring foods.

Use salt as a veggie wash. It will help remove dirt from greens such as spinach, kale and arugula by swirling them around in a bowl of salt water.

If you rub the insides of your windows with a sponge dipped in salt water frost won’t appear on the windows.

If you have too many bubbles in your bath water or the dish water, sprinkle in some salt. That will cut down the bubbles.

Shake a little salt on the bottom of a greasy pan before washing it. The salt will absorb most of the grease.

For a sticky iron you can remove the stickiness by sprinkling a little salt on a piece of brown paper and then ironing the brown paper. Repeat if necessary.

You can also use salt to remove the water marks from wooden surfaces. Make a paste of salt and cooking oil. Gently rub the area with a sponge. Let this paste sit a few minutes then wipe with a soft cloth and polish as usual.
