What bothers me is a statement made by President Obama pledging to “help however we can”. Does this mean getting involved in yet another war? Aren’t we in wars too long now? This bothers me because it seems we have been sending our young men and women into dangerous areas to fight alongside the people of the regions who are at war. While I am not opposed to the Libyans fighting for their freedom, I am opposed to Obama sticking the U.S. “neck” out again. I hope he knows what he’s doing, but I doubt he thought long and hard about that statement he made.

White Nose Syndrome is lethal to each bat that gets sick. It causes a white fungus to grow around the nose area, sometimes on the tips of wings, tail and ears of bats. No one is quite sure where it comes from and how it is transmitted from one bat to another. Bats have been dying by the thousands each year. Biologists predict that the little brown bat will not have a future unless something is done or a cure is found. There are over 1 million little brown bats in caves, old buildings, and mines. The most common bat in Pennsylvania, the little brown bats have been found dead in these areas where they tend to hibernate.

Fewer bats means more bugs to destroy crops and attack people. Bats are very beneficial to the environment and are a needed natural pest control creature. More investigation into White Nose Syndrome is needed. The bats can’t wait for a cure…they don’t have a whole lot of time left if the biologists are accurate in their calculation of distinction.

Burt Rutan, the founder of Scaled Composites who manufactured the 60 foot long rocket plane, said this flight signaled the start of what is believed will be successful for the spaceship’s flight test program. The first test reached an altitude of 45,000 feet. A second test in the near future will be 60,000 feet over the Earth when it will fire rockets to propel into space from the carrier plane. Test flights will continue throughout 2011.

Virgin Galactic is considering one flight a week with 6 tourists aboard who will pay $200,000 for the ride. These tourists will also train for at least three days before boarding. Currently about 60,000 people have put their names on the waiting list for seats.

Their feat of engineering goes to show that when someone has a dream and keeps trying to have other visualize it reality can happen. Years ago when the first Star Trek came out no one ever thought much about the things Captain Kirk and his crew used on that particular Enterprise. But today we have cell phones and other instruments that were fashioned from the props Kirk and crew used. For only one season we watched and dreamed. Apparently Richard Branson followed his dream. Good for him! We need more dreamers in this world, ones who will do the research, consider all the options, and then forge ahead and build their dream. As for the Enterprise, may her eventual virgin voyage into space be all that Mr. Branson envisioned.

I have also tried to let everyone know about things that have happened to me with my health. Education with diabetes and its many complications is the only way to combat this disease until a cure is found. A diet of different seeds is essential as different species of birds prefer one seed over another. One seed most birds will eat are the black-oil sunflower seeds. These seeds are very nutritious and high in fat. The small size and thin shells make it easy for the smaller birds to handle and crack open. In addition mixtures of safflower, corn, millet, Milo and Niger will attract birds. You can also hang suet from branches. This can be found in many stores.

There are different types of birdfeeders. You need to find one that you like and can easily fill. Be careful what you put your seeds in because rain and snow will damage the seed and make it moldy. Mold is not good for birds. Tossing out scraps of old bread and rolls is fine, as long as it is not moldy. And don’t toss bread out late in the day as you may get some unwanted creatures with four legs. It’s best to feed in the morning when the birds are out looking for food.

Then sit and enjoy watching out the window. The antics of birds getting food for the day can be a lot of fun. They act like a bunch of siblings trying to grab that last piece of candy in the dish…you will see the birds chasing each other to get some food. What happened to Micheal? Five of his “friends”, four age 15, and 1 age 13, dosed him with rubbing alchohol and set him afire. Why? Because he told police his dad’s bike had been stolen and they considered him a “snitch”.

What are young people doing these days? Why are they torturing their classmates and friends? Is it due to movies? The Internet? Video games? Somewhere along the line something has gone wrong. Children shouldn’t be torturing, maiming or killing other children. It’s bad enough adults hurt children. Now we have this. I refuse to buy any games that advertise killing. There’s too much of that in this world.
